Hi, my name is Emily and I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I constantly struggled to stick to diets such as Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, and grew up always trying to lose weight with very little success. At 32 years old I was unhappy and I felt like I was still waiting for my life to begin. I decided to take unpaid leave from my job in television and moved to Wanaka, New Zealand to focus on my health.

 

Here, my life changed forever as I started my healthy lifestyle journey. I began listening to podcasts on health and wellness as I walked and cycled around Central Otago, while enjoying the spectacular scenery. I had never enjoyed exercising before but the beautiful scenery made me want to be outside and keep active. Each new podcast inspired me to make small modifications, which have now become regular habits in my daily life. I learnt about holistic health and slowly changed my lifestyle, focusing on becoming healthy to lose weight instead of losing weight to become healthy.

 

By eating nourishing, real food and making lifestyle modifications, I shed 30kg over two years, which is half way to my initial weight release goal. This lead me to realise that creating new habits and making lifestyle modifications that suit the individual is the best way to achieve long term health and weight release, rather than through dieting and exercise as endorsed by the mainstream health industry. I decided to study in nutrition at a holistic college in Auckland where I worked with clients, confirming my passion for helping people improve their health using food and lifestyle modifications.
